Yes, we assess both adults and children 6+ years of age. The type of assessment and process may vary depending on age and presenting concerns. We recommend discussion with your GP or other health professional prior to requesting an assessment and obtaining a referral where possible. Referrals can validate the need for an assessment and provide us with very helpful information about your situation. A referral for an autism assessment from a psychiatrist or paediatrician for <25 year olds will enable you to claim a Medicare rebate.

No, you do not need a referral for an assessment. However, a referral from a doctor, psychologist or specialist is recommended as this provides additional information relevant to the assessment.

Medicare rebates are available for an Autism Assessment for people under 25 who have been referred by a paediatrician or psychiatrist. More information is available on the Services Australia website.

Medicare rebates are not available for ADHD or psychoeducational assessments.

For individuals aged 12 and over, therapy can be provided at Aperture Psychology following an assessment. Our clinicians specialise in working with teens, young adults, and neurodivergent individuals, ensuring tailored therapeutic support based on assessment insights.

No, we don’t provide direct support with funding applications. However, we ensure you have all the necessary information to take the next steps.

For Autism assessments, your report will include details on available funding options and guidance on how to start the application process, such as contact information for NDIS local area coordinators and early childhood partners. This report can also serve as supporting evidence of disability and its impact on daily life when applying for NDIS funding.

Since NDIS assessments can take up to nine months, we also inform you about any other financial support options that may be available. Please note that our reports are not intended for medico-legal purposes. For more information on providing evidence for NDIS applications, visit the NDIS website.

Only parent interviews can be conducted via telehealth.

Your clinician will score and analyse the results and write a detailed report. We will schedule a follow-up appointment 3-4 weeks after your final testing session to provide the report and give detailed feedback on the results, including diagnosis and support recommendations.

Yes, we understand that assessments can feel overwhelming, especially for children. To make the process as comfortable as possible, we offer:

• Rest & Attention Breaks – We allow scheduled breaks to help maintain focus and reduce fatigue.

• Snacks & Meals – We recommend bringing snacks or lunch, especially for longer assessments.

• Comfort & Connection – For children, we take time to help them settle in by engaging in activities like drawing, train or lego, before starting the formal assessment.

Our goal is to create a supportive, low-stress environment, to ensure the most accurate and helpful results.

Before your assessment we recommend that you:

1. Gather documents such as relevant day care or school reports, medical records, or other health information such as your child’s Blue Book.

2. Get a good night’s sleep as rest helps with focus and performance.

Also remember to bring your essentials such as glasses, hearing aids, or anything needed for clear communication, to your appointment.

No. As a psychology clinic, we specialise in the study of human behaviour, emotions, and mental processes and as such cannot prescribe medication. If you wish to explore medication options, you will need to consult with a psychiatrist or paediatrician to explore whether a trial of medication may be beneficial (note: no other doctors can prescribe stimulant medication for ADHD).

Most neuropsychological assessments are not covered by Medicare. Some neuropsychological assessments for autism in children and adults under 25 years of age with a referral from a paediatrician or psychiatrist can claim a rebate. We’ll clarify all fees and any available rebates upfront before you begin.

The process usually spans several sessions over a few weeks. For children this usually involves a parent-only interview, followed by a separate testing session with the child. For adults, usually the interview and testing occur in a single, longer session. Duration and testing requirements will vary depending on assessment type and specific case details. All assessments include a final feedback session.

Yes. All our assessments come with a comprehensive written report outlining the findings, diagnosis (if applicable), and personalised recommendations.

Yes. If appropriate, we can refer you to one of our in-house clinicians for therapy or connect you with trusted providers externally.

Some parts of the assessment process may be completed remotely, but most assessments are conducted in person.

Your information remains confidential and the finalised report is only shared with the referring psychiatrist, GP or paediatrician. It may be shared with others (e.g. school, doctor, treating clinician) if you give consent.

Yes. When paying by instalments please note that the assessment report will not be released until final payment is received.

While we’re not always able to offer immediate appointments, you’re welcome to join our waitlist and we’ll do our best to accommodate you as soon as possible. Our team reviews availability regularly, and if a cancellation comes up, we’ll prioritise those on the waitlist. Your report will include personalised and specific recommendations for you to enact. We can provide details of other professionals from our trusted referral partner network, and talk to schools to clarify school/classroom support. The report provides full details of other recommended next steps, e.g. how to apply to NDIS for funding, etc.

Clinical psychologists and clinical neuropsychologists complete different Masters level post-graduate training. Typically, clinical psychologists focus on mental and emotional wellbeing through therapy, however, are also trained to conduct neurodevelopmental assessments. 

Neuropsychologists are specifically trained to assess how brain function affects behaviour and cognition, often using specialised tools to diagnose conditions like ADHD, autism or learning difficulties, dementia and cognitive functioning following brain injury.
