About Sophie
Across more than 15 years working as a clinical and research psychologist, Dr Sophie Li has developed a reputation for combining clinical expertise with deep scientific curiosity. Her career spans clinical practice, research, digital health innovation, teaching and leadership. She currently serves as Practice Director at Aperture Psychology and is also a Supervising Psychologist in the School of Psychology, University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney. Sophie’s work has included leading large‑scale youth mental health research initiatives, securing over $6M in grant funding, and contributing to high‑impact publications in journals such as The Lancet Psychiatry, The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health, and the Journal of Child Psychology & Psychiatry. She has also appeared in media including The Conversation, ABC TV, and National Geographic, reflecting her role as a trusted voice in the field.
Sophie’s focus and expertise is in neuropsychological assessments, offering assessments following brain injury, in relation to memory concerns and comprehensive ADHD, autism, and psychoeducational assessments. Her approach to assessments is warm, collaborative, and evidence‑based. She values helping clients and families understand the “why” behind their challenges, drawing on her neuroscience training to explain symptoms in accessible ways.
Sophie also has extensive experience supporting individuals experiencing mood and anxiety disorders, sleep difficulties, neurodiversity‑related concerns, and complex presentations. Her research leadership includes developing ClearlyMe, a CBT‑based app for adolescent anxiety and depression, and adapting Sleep Ninja for younger users. These projects highlight her commitment to creating accessible, real‑world tools that improve youth mental health outcomes.
Sophie is motivated by a genuine desire to help people make sense of their experiences and move toward meaningful change. Outside of work, she enjoys natural and ancient history, David Attenborough documentaries, spending time with her family, and the occasional zombie movie.
