About Tamara
Tamara Kacen is a Clinical Psychologist and Board-approved Supervisor with more than 15 years of experience supporting adults across public and private hospital settings. Her career has included significant roles at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, where she contributes to the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Program and supports the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry team. She has also worked within the Therapy and Recovery Service at Fairfield-Liverpool Community Mental Health Service and the Alfred Hospital’s Community Mental Health Service. These experiences have shaped her grounded, compassionate, and clinically robust approach to care.
Tamara works with warmth, openness, and a strong belief in helping clients build everyday effectiveness and reconnect with meaning in their lives. She draws from evidence-based frameworks, integrating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness-based approaches, Schema Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy to tailor treatment to each person. Creating a safe, steady therapeutic space is central to her work, ensuring clients feel supported as they explore emotional patterns, navigate challenges, and build sustainable coping skills.
She works primarily with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, and adjustment-related concerns, as well as those facing emotionally stormy interactions or relationship difficulties. Tamara also has a strong interest in supporting individuals living with complex or chronic physical health conditions, including renal disease, diabetes, organ transplant recovery, or reliance on medical devices. She values walking alongside clients as they navigate the emotional impact of long-term health challenges, balancing both psychological and practical aspects of care.
Tamara is motivated by witnessing clients rediscover capacity, courage, and clarity over time. She finds great meaning in helping people better understand themselves, build confidence in managing their emotions, and move toward lives that feel more grounded and fulfilling.
